Held the last full weekend in June, Pioneer Picnic is the annual celebration of all things Callaway. For three days, visitors can visit, or return to Callaway to celebrate Callaway's heritage with everything from a two-day rodeo, fun run, parade, car show, alumni events and reunions, street dances, trail ride and games and activities for all ages at Morgan Park.
The Seven Valleys Rodeo, held for over 50 years, kicks things off Friday night, with a street dance to follow. Saturday, things kick off with the Parade and tons of activites at Morgan Park during the day. Saturday evening, there Alumni Reunions and another street dance. Sunday starts off with a Trail Ride and more activities at Morgan Park. the weekend wraps up with the Seven Valleys Rodeo Sunday night. Visitors can also enjoy the Seven Valleys Museum and Annex.
Morgan Park is the center of Callaway's recreation area, complete with tennis and basketball courts, the swimming pool and playground equipment, picnic tables and shelters and grills.
Custer County's first court house and accompanying historical marker add a bit of early history to the locale. Moved in from the Young Ranch in 1933, its dedication was held during the First Pioneer Picnic celebration. The town has sponsored a "Pioneer Picnic" almost every year since. The Alumni, Rodeo Club, and other local groups have joined together to make it a memorable occasion and fun for the entire family.
