Not only do we live in an information age, we also live at a time when higher education is crucial to advancement in careers and in the knowledge base required to enjoy a higher quality of life.

Callaway is not home to a college campus but that does not mean the community cannot offer many opportunities for higher education!

Through satellite and fiber optic technology, Callaway's public school can offer college credit classes from a variety of higher education institutions. Colleges such as Mid Plains Community College and Chadron State College regularly offer classes to Callaway and area residents through Distance Learning Technology. A satellite receiver also allows instruction from the University of Nebraska system and other centers of higher learning.

The Nigel Sprouse Memorial Library, located in downtown Callaway, also has public access computers which could be utilized to take college credit classes online. The phone number at the library is 308-836-2610 and anyone interested in doing this through them can call and make arrangements.

In addition, Mid Plains Community College with campuses in North Platte and McCook and a satellite campus in nearby Broken Bow, offer credit classes right in Callaway on a regular basis.

Callaway is located only 60 miles from the main campuses of Mid Plains Community College in North Platte and 65 miles from the University of Nebraska campus at Kearney. In addition colleges such as Bellevue University and Chadron State College maintain off campus attendance centers in North Platte as does Doane College with many graduate credit options. UNK offers a full array of Bachelor and Master's degree programs.

It may not have a campus, a football team, or cheerleaders, but Callaway can offer many opportunities for higher learning to its residents through its location and use of technology!
